City College football team continues unbeaten run

11 December 2009

City College Brighton and Hove’s newly-formed football team has started its first season in blistering form, reaching the Christmas break undefeated in all competitions. The First Team are currently top of the English College Football League (South East Division) and are still in both the National and County Cup competitions. Notable successes so far include convincing wins in the County Cup against local rivals Varndean College (4-0) and Hove Park (6-1), and in the national league the team opened the season with a 6-1 demolition of Mid Kent College, last year’s regional league runners-up.

There have been a number of factors in the success so far, particularly the goals of Adam Mitchell (8) and Fred Foreman (7). Likewise, Grant Hall was snapped up by the Albion, Ollie Rowe has made his debut for Eastbourne Borough in the Blue Square Premier Division, Liam Upton has established himself as a first team regular for Hastings United in the Ryman Premier Division and Fred Foreman and Ryan Storrie have continued to be involved with the first team at Lewes in the Blue Square South. Top goal-scorer Adam Mitchell has also been a regular in Worthing’s first team.

This is the first year for the Football Development Academy, a programme set up to provide talented young footballers in the area with the opportunity to train, play at a high level and continue their education at the same time. Until recently, the Head Coach was former Albion Captain Charlie Oatway, but following his appointment as First Team Coach at the Albion, the team are now being coached by former Albion and Fulham legend Richard ‘Chippy’ Carpenter. Chippy says:

"I am delighted with the form of the team, and think the success is down to a combination of talent and a good work ethic. The programme is a great opportunity for young players to continue with their football and their education."

The team are looking to continue their early season form after the Christmas break and are looking to strengthen the squad next year by recruiting more talented footballers from around Sussex. If you are interested in taking up a place on the Football Development programme next year then please contact programme manager Luke Hampton on (01273) 667788 or LH1@ccb.ac.uk.
