City College Brighton and Hove is hosting a ‘Gambia Night’ of traditional Gambian music and dance plus food, licensed bar and a prize raffle at its Main Hall in Pelham Street on Thursday 17th November at 6pm, entrance by donation. The event is to raise funds for the College’s Trades 4 Aid project, in which 14-19 year olds develop both construction and life skills which they can then use on projects in third world countries.
This year’s project involves taking seven students from Foundation Learning and KS4 Engagement construction programmes to the Gambia in December to support the local community by working on skills development and providing resources. Funds raised for the project are used to construct a library, provide improved sanitisation and re-paint the school. The funds also facilitate the young people travelling abroad, purchase materials for them to use in Gambia and pays for accredited leadership qualifications.

Trades 4 Aid
'This will be City College’s second trip to the Gambia and we’re hoping to continue to forge relationships with the village of Serrekunda and the local primary school', said Meraud Davis from the College’s 14-19 Team. 'The trip’s an amazing experience for disadvantaged and disengaged students from Brighton and Hove to support the children of Gambia by providing sustainable and long lasting improvements in their facilities.'
