In partnership with Jobcentre Plus, City College Brighton and Hove is currently offering free 'Work-Focussed Training' courses for jobseekers aged 18 to 24 which have previously been proven to significantly boost prospects in the job market. The courses, which generally last between two and ten weeks, cover areas such as Retail, Hospitality, Customer Service, Construction, Tourism and Health & Social Care. All courses involve enrolment as a full-time student which means access to an NUS card and generous student discounts in a variety of retail and entertainment outlets. The College's 'City Jobs' team will work with applicants to find and secure employment as part of the course and this support will continue for up to 13 weeks after it finishes. Courses are only available until March 2011 and are filling up quickly so those interested are advised to contact City College promptly.
Simon Dyer, City College's External Projects Officer, says:

Sam Terry
'These courses offer a fantastic opportunity for jobseekers. We also provide plenty of support and guidance to get people onto the type of course that will best suit their experience and career ambitions.'
Since completing a Work-Focussed Training course at the College, Sam Terry (23) has found employment as a Marketing & Promotions Assistant at the Rosehill Tavern in Brighton. Sam says:
'I'd only ever worked in warehouses so I'd never dealt with the public before so the customer service skills I got on the course made a huge difference to my confidence and my prospects. It was also through the support that I got in looking for work after completing the course that I found out about the vacancy at the Rosehill Tavern. My role involves creating and promoting themed nights, booking bands and DJs as well as serving customers. Before I started the course, I never thought I'd be able to get into a job like this.'
