City College opens its doors

City College Brighton and Hove, the largest provider of vocational education and training in the city, is holding a series of open events this month at each of its campuses in Brighton. Prospective students and parents are being invited to explore the full range of courses on offer and talk to tutors and students.

The City College East Open Evening is at Wilson Avenue, Brighton on Wednesday 17th November from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Visitors will be able to talk to tutors and current students, enjoy the excellent hospitality, see live music, be put through their paces by sports students and also get to see the state-of-the-art facilities at this campus. For those interested in studying Public Services, Sports, Building Crafts, Journalism, Music, Performing Arts or Filmmaking, this is an ideal opportunity to find out about the site where they will be primarily based.

The City College Open Day is at Pelham Tower, Pelham Street, Brighton on Saturday 20th November from 10am to 1pm. Tutors from all the College's departments will be available to speak to visitors about the range of course opportunities. There will also be the chance to talk to students about life at City College. Visitors will be able to see the facilities in the College's art studios, motor vehicle workshops, hair and beauty salons and professional kitchens. Limited free parking is available at this site - alternatively, a large public car park can be found nearby in Whitecross Street.

Finally, there is a Plumbing Open Evening on Wednesday 24th November from 6pm to 8pm at the College's Preston Road campus in Brighton. Tutors and technicians will be on hand to talk to visitors about the plumbing profession and how the College can provide the skills and confidence to enter this competitive industry. Also present will be the College's City Business Skills team to offer advice about the practicalities of arranging an apprenticeship.

The events are being held as the College celebrates its most successful year ever with an overall pass rate of 83%. For full-time courses for both 16-19 learners and adults it has achieved success rates of 83% and 84% respectively, placing it within the top 15% of colleges nationally. There have also been a range of regional and national accolades for City College students in the last year.
