City College Brighton and Hove’s commitment to making a positive difference in the local community has been confirmed at the prestigious Sussex Business Awards which were recently held at Brighton’s Grand Hotel, with the College being named as the winner of the ‘Business in the Community’ award. The ceremony was attended by over 400 of the county’s leading business figures including the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Mr Peter Field, Mayor of Brighton and Hove Councillor Anne Meadows, John Barradell, Chief Executive of Brighton and Hove City Council and Caroline Lucas MP.
City College works in partnership with hundreds of local employers to improve staff development strategies for businesses and its partnership with Jobcentre Plus to provide unemployed people with the skills and training they need to get back into work has attracted praise from national government. In the last year, the College has launched City Jobs, a new dedicated service to match local employers with local, work-ready employees. Judges also took into account the college’s contribution to the local apprenticeship recruitment drive, its Sports department’s creation of new opportunities for youth sport in the community as well as its projects to help impoverished communities in Kenya and Gambia.
