City College strengthens links with electrical contractors

28 October 2009

City College Brighton and Hove recently invited twenty members of the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) to hold their Employer Forum at the College and also took them on a tour of the College’s new electrical workshop facilities. This was part of College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen links with electrical contractors. The College and the ECA share a long-established link with JTL, a national provider providing the electrical industry with training for Advance Apprenticeships and delivering the Technical Certificate and key skills while they deliver the NVQ part of the framework through their own on-site training officers and assessors. Through this, students receive a well-supported training model that will give them the skills they require to become successful electrical contractors. Phil Frier, Principal of City College, says:

"The Electrical Contractors' visit to the College emphasises the importance of the joint endeavour between the College, employers and private training providers to make sure that we’re ready to beat this recession and to get young people and adults involved in these industries."

Darren Wetherill, Manager of DW Electrical and Chairman of the local branch of the ECA says:

"It was important for us to look around and see the facilities as we’ve been getting good reports of the current standard of training at City College. Most of us employ apprentices and in the long term, we’d like to send them here."
