Local employers recently gathered at City College Brighton and Hove's Gallery Restaurant for a celebratory lunch marking the success of the Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) Academy. Now in its second year, the CoVE Academy is an initiative that involves both college and work based learners working with local employers who wish to invest time and pass on their skills to the next generation of hospitality professionals.
The CoVE Academy is looking for employers who can offer work experience in all specialisms in the Hospitality Industry. The programme aims to give college learners a realistic insight of what is like to work in their chosen occupation. Work based learners have the opportunity to gain skills within a different work environment.

Nikki Boxall, Employee Relations Officer at the Grand Hotel says: 'I'm very keen to see this initiative progress, I want to see it work and with the next intake in January, we're going to be a lot more involved in the initiation process.'
'I believe that you need to support the community at large and education should be at the top of every community's agenda' says Charita Jones, Proprietor of Momma Cherri's Soul Food Shack in Brighton.
'I've got one of the CoVE Academy students working for me in the restaurant at the moment. Giving them this practical experience is good and also, working with the CoVE Academy, they're accessible. If I have a problem, they're at the end of a telephone - they're there to help the student and to help the employer.'
