Against a backdrop of severe reductions in further education funding that has seen many courses being cut at Colleges across the UK, City College Brighton and Hove has managed to secure the future of local Horticulture training by reaching agreement with Plumpton College that it will take over the running of a range of Horticulture courses at Brighton's Stanmer Park beginning in September. Plumpton College, based near Lewes, is a specialist college providing a wide range of land-based courses for those in further and higher education.
Phil Frier, Principal of City College, says:

Phil Frier and Des Lambert
'Our horticulture provision is something we've traditionally been very proud of at City College and the success our students have had at Hampton Court Flower Show in successive years speaks for itself. When we realised that the funding cuts were putting these courses in jeopardy, we immediately looked at potential solutions which is where Plumpton College came in. Our discussions with them went extremely well and we're delighted at the outcome.'
Des Lambert, Principal of Plumpton College, says:
'We are very pleased to be able to work with City College to enable the horticultural provision at Stanmer Park to be maintained and developed. Plumpton College has a specialist focus in this area of education and is confident that the provision can be developed for the benefit of the City of Brighton. The College's resources at its main site can be utilised for the benefit of students at Stanmer Park and the provision will be increased to include a greater range of courses for a wide age range.'
