Council welcomes College’s new Sports Department

City College has announced the launch of a new Sports Department starting this September. This is a first for the College and the city of Brighton and Hove, marking the start of an exciting future for the College. Luke Hampton, who will be managing the department, says:

"Sport will be central to the growth of the College over the next few years, and along with our involvement with the Community Stadium at Falmer, students with an interest in sports will enjoy the benefits for many years to come."

The announcement of the new department has been welcomed by Councillor David Smith, who is responsible for Culture, Tourism, Recreation and Sport at Brighton and Hove City Council. Cllr Smith says:

"I think this is a marvellous development for the city. It gives the opportunity for local people to take an active role in sport while gaining skills that will help them find employment doing something that they’re passionate about."

City College is committed to meeting the needs of local students and employers by providing a diverse range of vocational sports courses at different levels to suit all types of learners. Some of these courses include BTEC’s, Industry-led qualifications such as the Gym Instructor and FA Treatment of Injury courses, Sports Leaders Awards and a variety of coaching courses. The College has also recently shown its commitment to local sport by being one of the main sponsors of Takepart - the Brighton and Hove International Festival of Sport.
