Councillors face tough questions at City Business Club event

12 December 2011

Attendees at City Business Club, City College Brighton and Hove’s networking event for employers, business owners and decision makers in the Brighton area, recently had the opportunity to give local councillors a grilling about how Brighton and Hove City Council’s need to make £17 million of budgetary savings is going to affect the business community and the city’s economy. The event was organised jointly by City College and Deans Business Club.

City Business Coordinator Naomi Nunan said: 'Being the festive season, our December event at the Thistle Hotel was as sociable and friendly as usual but with the lively and candid Q and As with the councillors, the event showed that as well being an ideal forum for networking, City Business Club can also provide a perfect forum for the business community to air their concerns and tackle serious issues.'

'I was very pleased to be working jointly with City Business Club for this event', said Deans Business Club Founder Member Paul Yates-Smith. 'Naomi and I spent some time working on this and formulating how we could use what our members highlighted in our agenda for 2012. The turn-out and the fact that we attracted senior council figures demonstrates what we can achieve by working together as well as our members making new business contacts. Hopefully we can make this forum style event a regular feature in our events calendar for 2012 and beyond.'

City Business Club’s next event is on the 24th January at The Gallery Restaurant on Whitecross Street from 7.30am to 10am. ‘The Marathon – Making a Dream Happen’ will feature Tom Naylor from Grounded Events as the guest speaker.
