Culinary 'entente cordiale' at City College

15 January 2009

City College Brighton and Hove is currently playing host to a group of thirteen Pastry/Bakery students from Georges Baptiste College, Rouen. The exchange trip is part of the INTERREG IVA project led by Hove Park School, set up to support strategic cross-border co-operation for a more prosperous and sustainable region by forging closer links between education providers in Brighton & Hove and Haute-Normandie.

The English and French students have been working together to prepare an Anglo-French Gala Dinner at City College's training restaurant, The Gallery, with a reciprocal dinner also being arranged in Rouen. They will also be taking part in visits around Sussex (The Grand, The Cock Inn in Ringmer, Ridgeview Vineyard, The Royal Pavilion and Oxen Dean Organic Farm) London, Paris and Rouen to learn about regional differences in food and cooking. There will be two more exchange trips in March involving students from different specialist areas of catering.

Catering tutor Jon Kent says:

'Being part of this project provides a fantastic opportunity for our students to broaden their culinary horizons and raise their cultural awareness. The students are really mixing together well and responding brilliantly to the tasks we're setting them.'
