Employers Offered Free Skills Advice at Metropole

27 April 2006

A showcase event at Brighton's Hilton Metropole, 'Skills for Today, Investing for Tomorrow', will provide Sussex employers with an opportunity to increase their productivity and sales by accessing free business advice and guidance and exploring the funding available to support their organisation. Areas covered include Business & Finance, Construction, Digital Media and Tourism & Hospitality. The event, on Thursday 11th May, will also feature motivational speeches from Sally Gunnell OBE and Sahar Hashemi, co-founder of Coffee Republic.

Sussex has been more successful than any other area in England in its ability to secure major investment through Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) to support the work of employers in key areas. By achieving CoVE status from the Learning and Skills Council, colleges and training providers have proved their credentials in providing specialist training and the development of skills in a sector and location where there is a skills gap. By meeting with specific CoVEs specialising in supporting their industry, businesses can access high quality training designed to meet their skills needs. The event will be running throughout the day starting at 9.30am and finishing at 7.30pm, allowing employers to drop in at a time that suits them.

Ann Smith, Principal of City College Brighton and Hove says:

'Here at City College, we're proud to be part of the excellent network of CoVEs in Sussex. As well as finding out about the wide range of fantastic training opportunities that are available to them, I'm sure employers will feel inspired by what Sally and Sahar have to say about their own recipes for success.'

The event will feature showcase stands providing the opportunity to explore the diverse range of industry recognised qualifications and specialist tailored courses offered by each CoVE. The very highest standards of training, facilities and up to the minute technology available to businesses will be demonstrated in presentations. There will also be professional workshops and taster sessions providing the opportunity to be involved with national, regional and local initiatives, promoting businesses and a gateway to accessing funding. Employers will be sharing their experiences of training delivered through CoVEs.

? Sahar Hashemi will provide the keynote speech at lunchtime with the opportunity for questions. Sahar has risen to national prominence as an inspirational speaker attending various high profile events and has gained recognition as one of Britain's most influential women in business.

? Sally Gunnell OBE will provide the keynote speech at 6pm, with the opportunity for questions afterwards. Sally is the only woman ever to hold four major track titles concurrently ? Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth. She has written four books on fitness, health, self-fulfilment and well-being and is a renowned motivational speaker.
