A journalism graduate from City College Brighton and Hove has won praise from Channel 4 News for a groundbreaking story she produced about the impact of fuel costs on disabled people. Sarah Spendiff produced the story after winning the Generation Next competition which gave new journalists the chance to work for Channel 4 News based on the strength of their story ideas.
Julie Hulme, Channel 4 News’ Senior News Editor, says:

Sarah Spendiff
"Sarah found case studies which truly brought home the impact of fuel poverty on the severely disabled. We were amazed when she found one man who was choosing to eat every other day because he needed to keep his heating on. No-one had told that story on TV and as a result of her thorough research, Sarah helped us to bring this original journalism to our audience."
Jan Goodey, Course Leader of Journalism at City College, says:
"Sarah has an eye for the personal in a story and the features she did while at City College as well as working on that 'human interest' angle, worked to further enlighten readers with a fresh perspective on the issue in question. She was always questioning and probing issues and that along with her personable but persistent interview technique has led to the national success she is currently achieving."
