Illustration students from City College Brighton and Hove have been out and about in Brighton unleashing a weird and wacky collection of mutant monsters that they have made for a College project entitled 'Fantastic Plastic'. Using items from local charity shops, the students set about disassembling plastic toys and dolls and then creating something new and unusual. After making observational drawings, the students then had to go into Brighton and take photographs of their creations in locations across the city. The photographs were then used to tell a story about differents phobias such as pteromerhanophobia (fear of flying) and autophobia (fear of being alone).
Tutor Ceri Amphlett says:
'We were really impressed with how the students responded to the project. They re-built old toys to create new, striking and unusual characters which were then used to inspire a piece of narrative work.'
