A chain of pub eateries run by former City College Brighton and Hove catering student Ben McKellar has scored a hat-trick with three entries in a prestigious guide.
The Gingerman group’s Sussex venues have been highlighted in the Michelin Eating Out In Pubs guide for 2012. They were among 20 pubs in Sussex which got an entry in the guide. The Ginger Pig in Hove Street, Hove, The Ginger Dog in College Place, Kemp Town, and The Ginger Fox in Albourne, near Henfield, all won praise from inspectors. Food at The Ginger Pig was described as 'precisely prepared, flavoursome British dishes', while cooking at The Ginger Fox was 'skilful, with a real country flavour'. The Ginger Dog was noted for 'a welcoming atmosphere and relaxed feel'.
Leroy Clarke, City College’s Curriculum Team Leader for Catering & Hospitality said: 'Ben’s always been a great ambassador for catering at City College and I think he provides a fantastic role model to our current students when it comes to his work ethic, ambition and sheer culinary imagination.'
Ben, who runs the Gingerman group with his wife Pamela, said: 'We are very pleased to be so represented. The Michelin guide is obviously very highly regarded generally within the restaurant and pub food community. The Fox and the Pig have been in before but it is the first year that the Ginger Dog has been involved.'
