International students from as far afield as Africa, Taiwan, China and Iran recently took part in a week of events to celebrate diversity at City College Brighton and Hove.
The College’s Student Support team organised a range of activities throughout the week to celebrate the diverse range of students at the College and to raise awareness of the issues that may be faced by minority groups. Activities included sign language workshops, a Young Muslim Group meeting and a disabled learners’ forum. At the event hosted by international students, they showed fellow-students how to write their names in five different alphabets, demonstrated Japanese calligraphy, made henna tattoos, held a language matching quiz and brought in a range of exotic foods from their various home nations for students to sample.

Diversity Week at City College
'We’re so lucky at City College to have such a diverse student body and these events gave us an opportunity to celebrate this diversity', said Susan De Jesus, the College’s International Student Officer. 'Every year, our international students go the extra mile in preparing activities and food to showcase their cultures. Local students really embraced the opportunities that come from being part of such a diverse student population by trying foods that they’d never tried before, engaging in discussion with our international students and learning hands-on about the wider world.'
