Two former City College students who have gone on to find success with their own businesses have offered their services as poster stars for the College's current enrolment campaign under the slogan 'City College worked for me!'. The campaign, now in its second year and supported by newspaper and radio advertisements, runs throughout the summer months and thirty lamppost banners are displayed at prominent sites throughout the city. Restaurateur Ben McKellar (The Gingerman, The Ginger Pig, The Ginger Fox) and Beauty Therapist Elizabeth Dineen (First Avenue Treatment Rooms) are now immortalised on five metre-high banners currently being displayed on the side of the main College building, Pelham Tower.
Ben McKellar says:

Ben McKellar and Elizabeth Dineen
'City College is where it all started for me and I've got some very good memories of my time there. I did a two-year course when I was sixteen and I spent two happy years learning there and then I went straight into the catering industry. I feel that the College and local business work hand-in-hand. I think the College should supply future employees for local businesses and by having a strong relationship with employers, it can help develop young people into good employees and business people.'
Elizabeth Dineen says:
'Of course the campaign provides a nice plug for my business but I also thought it was important to help promote the College and what it can offer to students. I found City College really valuable in helping me in my career and the enrolment campaign allows students to see what they can achieve with hard work and what can happen if they're put in the right direction and taught the skills that they need.'
Vernice Halligan, Head of Employer Engagement at City College, says:
'Our engagement with local businesses is vital because they tell us what type of training they want potential employees to have and their input helps ensure that our courses remain at the cutting edge. For successful employers like Ben and Elizabeth to back their former College in this enrolment campaign also sends out a really positive message to local people that a good vocational education can lead to a highly successful career.'
