Motor Vehicle students help Scout ambulances 'be prepared'!

14 January 2011

Motor Vehicle students from City College Brighton and Hove have been linking up with Sussex's Scout movement to offer free repairs and maintenance to the organisation's ambulances. Motor Vehicle Tutor Brian Lawrence, who is also a member of the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team team, says:

'The Scout ambulances are largely maintained by students in the Motor Vehicle section which means that the cost to the Scout team, which is a charitable organisation, is kept much lower. Its great experience for the students to get hands-on knowledge of various tasks and it also means that the Scouts are keeping the fleet of ambulances running for the benefit of other young people.'

Steve Philliben, Motor Vehicle Curriculum Team Leader at City College, adds:

'Our students' efforts helped keep these ambulances on the road during the recent arctic conditions and generally, it's really positive for the College to link up with local community organisations in a way that is mutually beneficial.'
