New Construction Centre previewed in fly-through video

22 January 2016

A fly-through video created by Sussex-based HNW Architects is offering local people an advance preview of City College Brighton and Hove’s new Construction & Trades Centre at the College’s City College East Campus on Wilson Avenue.

The Centre has been designed to be a leading educational and training hub for Brighton & Hove’s next generation of construction workers and is scheduled to be completed by March 2017. The £9m centre, which has been funded by the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), will enable students in the different trades to work together and follow each other through the construction process, mirroring real site conditions. HNW Architects designed the centre, leading construction firm Osborne are building it and the works will be project-managed by Sussex construction and property consultancy practice, NorthGates. Demolition of old structures on the site started in November last year and construction work commenced this month.

Nick Juba, City College’s CEO, said:

'State of the art facilities are fundamental to the College’s ambitions, so it’s tantalising to get a sense of the scale of the Construction Centre and how it might impact on our approach to teaching and learning in the construction trades. The College is committed to helping local people gain the vocational skills that employers expect and we’re proud that this Centre will provide a space in which the carpenters, builders, electricians and plumbers of the future will be able to learn their skills in realistic working environments.'
