New album release from City College students

10 June 2011

Music Technology students at City College Brighton and Hove have released a new compilation album showcasing their talent. The label 'Brighton Records' was set up by the Music students to help them gain an insight into the music industry and gain valuable experience in an extremely competitive marketplace. It also nurtures and promotes the College's emerging talent in music performing, composing, recording and production.

'The students this year have a diverse range of tastes but roughly speaking, half the tracks on the new album are more organic and performance-based rock, indie and singer/songwriter-style tracks while the other half of the album is more dance and electronic-based and covers genres such as drum & bass, house and break-beat', says Jason Murphy, City College's Curriculum Team Leader in Music & Journalism

'The record label gives the students a stepping stone into the real world of the music industry instead of just being an academic exercise. As part of the day-to-day managing and administration of the label, the students have been developing the Brighton Records brand through online networking such as Facebook and Twitter as well as their traditional showcase gigs throughout the year. This will help them to reach an audience and also forge links with the local music industry. It's all part of our ongoing plan to make Brighton Records bigger and better with each yearly release.'
