Prince's Trust Team aim to transform local sport facilities

6 April 2016

A group of youngsters on the City College Brighton and Hoveís Princeís Trust Team programme are currently on a mission to bring much-needed improvements to football facilities at The Manor Sports & Activities Centre in Whitehawk. The project involves clearing ground for three new football pitches, painting goalposts and providing new equipment including nets. To date, the group have raised over £300 for the project through cake sales and a sponsored walk from Worthing to Brighton but they need a further £200 to hit their fundraising target.

Team Leader Charlotte Geerts says:

'Making significant improvements to facilities in their own community is a really rewarding project for the team to be involved and for me personally, this project means a lot as my late grandfather Tony Geerts had a long-standing connection with Whitehawk Manor and was a hugely respected figure there through all his many years devoted to schools football in Sussex.'

Tanya Burbidge, Managing Director of the Manor, adds:

'Itís brilliant to have a group of young people to help out at The Manor as its run by volunteers from the local community and its jobs like painting the goalposts that never seem to get done. We owe a massive thank you to the Princeís Trust for their kind offer of help to make our community a better place for all to enjoy.'

The Princeís Trust Team programme is a 12-week personal development course for 16-25 year olds which helps unemployed young people gain the skills and confidence to find a job. Three in four young people supported by The Princeís Trust move into work, training or education.
