City College Brighton and Hove has recently welcomed visitors from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who work for the General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training (GOTEVOT). GOTEVOT arranged two courses for a total of 30 Deans and Deputy Deans at the College to gain an insight into UK Further Education and the methods involved in delivering a wide curriculum. GOTEVOT now plans to develop their own systems using the best practice models they have seen at City College.
Mansour A. Al-Miman, PhD, College Dean at Jeddah College of Technology says:

City College Deputy Principal John Evans (back row, 4th from left) welcomes Deans fro
'The programme the College organised for us was very informative and enjoyable. It has been a great opportunity for us to learn about the systems at City College and how they design their courses. We've also been impressed by the facilities at the College. Brighton is a beautiful city and we enjoyed our stay here very much.'
Ann Smith, Principal of City College says:
'Tony Blair made a pledge that the UK would support Saudi Arabia in trying to promote vocational education within the kingdom. There is an urgent need to provide work and training opportunities for young people in a wide range of vocational subjects. Saudi Arabia has been dependent on imported labour for skills such as plumbing, bricklaying and carpentry. However, the Saudi Arabia government knows that they have to place more emphasis on vocational qualifications for Saudi Arabian nationals. The UK is supporting and helping them to develop more colleges - in particular, colleges for women. City College is proud to assist in this endeavour. '
City College is involved in plans to create 450,000 training places for men and 100,000 for women between now and 2014.
