Now in its second year, Brighton Records is a record label conceived and managed by students studying Music Technology at City College Brighton and Hove. This innovative project helps the students gain an insight into the machinery of the music industry and get valuable experience in an extremely competitive market place. It is also a chance to nurture and promote the College's emerging talent in composition, experimental recording and production. The annual showcase of new talent and launch of Brighton Records' 2006 compilation CD is at the Komedia on Tuesday 23rd May as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival. This year, the event is entitled 'External Live Return'.
Music Technology Tutor Jason Murphy says:

'Brighton Records enables our students to get hands-on experience in writing, recording and producing their own music for commercial release on a record label that's run entirely by them. For most of our students, this is the first time they've been in a recording studio let alone involved in the music industry, so it's an immense achievement. '
Student Richard Warn says:
'Brighton Records has given us all a fantastic opportunity. Putting together the compilation CD has been brilliant. There's such an impressive amount of talent amongst the students and I think the standard of music that we're putting out there is really high. I'm also looking forward to the event at the Komedia. It'll give us the chance to perform our music in front of a crowd and that's what I love about performing live - getting an immediate response from an audience.'
Entry to the Brighton Records Label Launch is £5. This price includes a copy of the compilation CD which will otherwise be £5 in the shops. The CD will be available in all good local record shops from the 22nd May. Tickets are available from the Komedia and also at City College's Students' Union office or Wilson Avenue reception. The gig is from 7.30pm until 12am and will feature live bands, solo acts and DJs.
