Students provide website boost to charity

A group of seven website design students at City College Brighton and Hove recently volunteered their skills to come up with a web design and logo for Esteem, a local charity which offers guidance, support and personal development to young people, especially to those who have been cared for by the statutory or voluntary sectors. The charity is currently providing a week of life-enhancing, healthy and educational experiences for vulnerable young people at a Yurt centre, Cortijo Vadillo, near Granada, Spain. The design that was finally selected by Esteem's trustees was by Sarah McLaughlin. Val Vizor, Esteem's Personal Development Co-ordinator says:

'Through having a web-site and logo, we've been able to gain both international recognition and increased funds as well as attracting participants. As trustees, we were amazed at the creativity and dedication of the students, regardless of our frequent requests for changes. We've had many compliments on our new website and the Esteem team will always be grateful to City College.'

Tutor Phil Jackson says:

'The overall usability of Sarah's design made it the stand-out website. It showed creative flair, great use of graphics and was simply a very professional creative website design.'

Sarah McLaughlin says:

'The content that Esteem provided really shaped how the website was going to look so working with a real client on a real project that had a proper deadline was a great way to help refine my skills to a professional level.'
