The Government Inspector' Comes to City College

6 June 2006

Performing Arts students from City College Brighton and Hove have formed themselves into a theatre company to present their final major production of the academic year. 'The Government Inspector' will be at the Tower Theatre, Pelham Street, Brighton on Thursday June 15th and Friday June 16th at 7.30pm. Gogol's farce about local government corruption and mistaken identity provides fantastic opportunities for the young cast to demonstrate their acting skills. Full of grotesque and outlandish characters, the play presents a mirror of society and shows to comic effect how those who govern us can easily become self-deluded and full of their own importance.

Everyone in public service dreads the news that a government inspector is on the way but the twist in the play is that the local officials are so incompetent that they mistake a philanderer and con-artist for the inspector. The fun for the audience is witnessing the fake inspector taking everyone in the town for a ride.

Student Alice Colquhoun says:

'The hierarchy involved in the play makes it extremely challenging. It means working as a group and building the tension throughout the whole piece and also really delving into the eclectic mix of characters.'

The play is directed by Daniel Finlay with physical movement work by Siou Hannam.

Entrance by £3.00 programme purchased on the door.
