While the dust settles on the Brighton Festival, which has brought a wealth of international talent to the City, the focus is very much on budding local talent as City College Brighton and Hove launches its 2009 June Arts and Media Festival - the JAM Fest!
Students from a range of creative disciplines - drama, art, photography, music, multimedia - are showcasing their work in a variety of events and exhibitions. The aim of the JAM Fest is to raise awareness of the exciting diversity of creative ideas coming out of the College.
Carolyn Wright, the College’s Curriculum Manager for Digital & Visual Arts, says:
"This year’s JAM Fest once again brings a wealth of fresh creative talent to view, providing a fabulous opportunity for the local community to come along to the College to roam the shows, see performances or go to a gig. The reputation of City College, as a centre of excellence for the Creative Arts is as a result of the tireless enthusiasm, hard work and dedication of students and tutors alike. JAM Fest 2009 has something for everyone so we look forward to welcoming you to the events to view of the next generation of young creatives!"
JAMFest Highlights:
- Art & Design End of Year Show - 11th to 17th June 2009
The final projects from over 300 students who complete their courses this year will be exhibited over the five days in the York and Trafalgar Buildings, Pelham Street. It will be a feast for the senses and an infinite variety of different creative work including photography, fine art, games development, fashion, textiles, graphics, illustration and 3-D design will be presented. - Come Down from the Mountain at Fitzherberts Bar - 4th June 2009
A helping of live bluegrass, country and folk featuring talent from City College. Upstairs at Fitzherbert’s. - Duck by Stella Feehily at the Pelham Theatre - 7pm on June 17th and 18th 2009
Cat and Sophie are teenagers on the brink, growing up in the face of everything a city can throw at them. But girls just wanna have fun. And you can't learn to be good when your elders are no longer your betters. Somehow, the girls must cope - or find a way of escaping. - Brighton Records Showcase at the Latest Music Bar - 25th June 2009
This gig is to showcase new music from the fifth commercial CD compilation release from Brighton Records, a label set up by the Music Technology students of City College in an effort to showcase new talent. The range of genres covered by Brighton Records includes Urban, Rock/Alternative, Electronic/Leftfield, and Singer/Songwriter.
